I, Julian Zuluaga, have spent the last 9 years dedicating my practice to complex spine surgery. I trained at the Roosevelt Children's Orthopedic Institute in Bogota and at the J. P. Garrahan Pediatric Hospital in Buenos Aires (Argentina), both centers where multiple complex cases of spinal deformities are operated on and I have participated in approximately 250 scoliosis surgeries.
In the last 7 years I have performed about 40 scoliosis surgeries per year, with satisfactory results, taking into account that so far no complications have occurred thanks to the use of special equipment such as neurophysiological monitoring, whose objective in surgery is to monitor the spinal cord in real time, which avoids injuries.
Additionally, I am adopting advanced techniques for spine surgery such as ALIF (Anterior lumbar interbody fusion) and XLIF (Extreme lateral interbody fusion) minimally invasive techniques (approaches with small wounds through the abdomen) and percutaneous fixations (small incisions in the back) endoscopic spine surgery (surgery through cameras and very small approaches), techniques that aim to cause less damage to the normal structures of the spine and thus reduce postoperative pain, bleeding, the risk of postoperative infection and therefore the hospital stay for the patient; I am currently in training in spinal endoscopy, with the aim of continuing with the approach of minimally invasive surgery, which has been adopted in the last 5 years.
