Adult Deformities

Scoliosis is a lateral deviation of the spine, which is evident when observing a person's back, causing asymmetrical shoulders, prominent ribs and scapulae, and an asymmetrical waist.

  • Hyperkyphosis is defined as an increase in the curvature of the thoracic or lumbar spine outside the normal limits; generating a deformity in it; it is more common in men, 8 out of every 100 people may present it, the most frequent is postural hyperkyphosis.

  • Spondylolisthesis is a forward displacement of a vertebra with reference to the vertebra just below it, most frequently affecting the last two lumbar vertebrae, although it can also affect the cervical spine. It can be suffered by 5 out of every 100 people with low back pain, this displacement can generate stenosis of the nerve canal and compression of one or more nerves of the spine.
